The first part of the new controversial Michael Jackson documentary ‘Leaving Neverland’ aired last night.

It focuses on allegations of child sex abuse made by two men, James Safechuck and Wade Robson against the singer.

There has been a lot of mixed reaction to the documentary, with some people who were close to the star, defending Michael Jackson over the last few days.

One of those people is the former child star, Oliver! actor Mark Lester, 'I was godfather to his children. He was godfather to my children.'

Speaking to Matt Cooper on The Last Word Lester said, 'I feel very sad for Michael's children. I knew Michael for over 30 years, and that is not the man I knew, it's not the man my family knew. My children played with his children.'

'He was just a very kind and generous man to my family, we had a lot of fun and a lot of good times together.'

'He very much was like a big kid, he would just sit around eating pizza and watching cartoons.'

On children sleeping in Michael's bed

Lester says, 'I wouldn't do that but in Michael's mind he obviously thought there was nothing wrong with having an adult sleepover, but I guess Michael, in his naivety and his innocence didn't seem to think there was anything wrong with it.'

'I have no doubt in my mind as to how Michael was with me. I have no doubt as to Michael's innocence. Unfortunately he's been taken advantage of many times.'

'To be honest with you I think this will all just disappear in a couple of weeks, it will be like... fish and chip wrappings, I think it will just go away.

Part two of Leaving Neverland airs tonight on Channel 4 at 9pm.
