This year has seen a significant rise in measles cases across Europe, with nearly a thousand confirmed cases in Britain so far and 76 in Ireland.
This could be a result of the anti-vaccination movement, which claims that vaccines are dangerous and can cause a range of health issues.
Dr Ray Walley, GP and former president of the Irish Medical Organisation, says we should be "very worried" about these latest developments, as measles is a dangerous and potentially fatal condition.
"Unfortunately in Europe there have been 43,000 cases in the last year. We have a 92% vaccination rate in Ireland, but it should be 95%."
Ray says the best way to protect yourself against measles is to ensure that you have had two doses of the MMR vaccine, and if you haven't, "you need to discuss it with your GP."
