Roseanne Barr has had her sitcom cancelled by ABC following a racist Twitter rant.

The actress made racist remarks about Barack Obama's former adviser Valerie Jarrett, likening her to a cross between the Muslim Brotherhood and Planet of the Apes.

Her apology has not gone down well with the public, as she blamed Ambien sleeping pills for her outburst.

Roseanne was revived in March after a two-decade absence from our screens and proved to be a huge success in the ratings.

A second season had been announced prior to yesterday's cancellation.
