Donald Trump will visit Ireland in November, but should he be welcomed?
Minister for Justice Charlie Flanagan thinks welcoming a US president to Ireland, regardless of personal feelings, can only be a good thing for the relationship between the two countries.
"There are 33 million people who claim Irish ancestry, so this is an opportunity to tell the president of the United States what we think of matters in terms of world affairs and the relationship between Ireland and America."
"I don't want to weaken the influence that we have in the United States. We are the only country in the world with a standing invitation to an annual event at the White House."
Labour Party Senator Aodhan O'Riordan disagrees: "I think we have an historic and moral obligation to speak out against this man's racism, intolerance and sexism."
"You can't separate the man from the office because Donald Trump now is an international symbol for hatred."
