Should you delete your Facebook account?

That's what many people are doing since it was revealed that 50 million members had their personal data harvested by UK-based company Cambridge Analytica.

Our tech expert Andy O'Donoghue joined Matt to guide him through the process of permanently deleting his own Facebook account.

If you want to do the same, here's how:

• If you go to 'Account Settings', Facebook will attempt to push you to "deactivate" your account. However, this won't remove any of your data from Facebook's servers, and is only a temporary measure. Your account will lie dormant until you log back in.
• If you actually want to delete your information from Facebook, the real setting can be found in a help document with the title "how do I permanently delete my account?"
• Clicking on "let us know" on that page will take users to the account deletion screen.
• Clicking "delete my account" will take you to another screen.
• You must then fill in your password and prove you aren't a robot. Your account will then be completely deactivated within 14 days.
• When this happens, it will take another 90 days for all of your data to be removed from the site.
