The film prequel to The Sopranos will star James Gandolfini's son in the lead role.

Michael Gandolfini will play the young Tony Soprano, his late father's most recognisable role, in The Many Saints of Newark, which is currently in pre-production.

The 19-year-old actor stated that it was "a profound honour" to continue his dad's legacy.

He can currently be seen in HBO's The Deuce and had a minor role in the 2018 movie Ocean's 8.
