Donald Trump has returned from his meeting with Vladimir Putin in Helsinki to criticism across the political divide.

The President has come under fire from senior Republicans and Democrats alike as well as the intelligence community for accepting Putin's denial of Russian interference in the election.

John McCain called Trump's press conference with Putin "one of the most disgraceful performances by an American president in memory" and said that the summit had caused a lot of damage.
