The polls are now open in America for the midterm elections, and it looks as though it could be one of the most consequential in decades as voter turnout is expected to be extremely high.

More than 31 million votes were already cast before the polls opened, compared to 22 million in the 2014 elections.

The Democrats are aiming to win back control of both houses of Congress from the Republicans, which would be a disadvantage for President Donald Trump.

All 435 seats in the House of Representatives are up for grabs, as well as 35 Senate seats and 36 governor positions, including high-profile races in Georgia and Florida.

Cal Thomas and Marion McKeone discuss what's at stake in our weekly US slot.
