Ticketmaster has announced it will be shutting down its secondary ticketing sites Seatwave and Get Me In.

Fans have often complained about tickets selling out extremely quickly and ending up on resale sites soon afterwards for inflated prices, so today's news will no doubt be welcomed by many.

Ticketmaster will now be setting up a new platform which will allow tickets to be traded at face value only.

Fine Gael TD Noel Rock has been instrumental in bringing forward legislation to combat ticket touting, and he says Ticketmaster's announcement has been a long time coming.

"I think we've seen this happen all too often. That's why we've brought about legislation, and as a consequence of cabinet approving that just three weeks ago, Seatwave is shutting down. It's good news for everybody."

John O'Neill, CEO of tickets.ie, also welcomes the decision.

"What we would like to see now is the legislation getting passed so the law can be implemented as soon as possible, and anyone who is found selling tickets above face value will be prosecuted."
