Have you ever had palpitations? Would you know what they were if you were having them?
A palpitation is described as the sensation of your heart beating. Some people have a heightened awareness of this, and it is often felt as extra beats or the heart skipping a beat.
Palpitations can be caused by issues such as dehydration, stress or over-exercising. While there can also be medical causes, they are rarely a sign of anything too serious.
Dr Ray Walley joined us for our weekly medical consultation to explain what you can do if you experience palpitations.
His advice includes staying well hydrated, avoiding excess alcohol and caffeine, reducing stress and anxiety, getting a good night's sleep, and eating regular meals to avoid hypoglycaemia.
