The Commission on the Future of Policing in Ireland released a report today, outlining plans for future reforms within An Garda Síochána.

The report comes at a time when public trust and confidence in the organisation has been somewhat damaged, not least by the circumstances surrounding the departures of certain Garda Commissioners.

Kathleen O'Toole, Chairperson of the Commission, joined us to discuss some of the issues facing An Garda Síochána and what needs to change.

She describes the report as "a comprehensive framework for a new beginning in policing" and hopes it will represent "a fresh start for the community and for the police."

Kathleen says the biggest challenges include establishing greater relationships with the community, increasing visibility on the front lines and the need for a district policing model.
