Here in Ireland we're known for our obsession with the weather, and now we can get a better understanding of how it all works thanks The Great Irish Weather Book.
The book is written by meteorologist Joanna Donnelly and is suitable for all ages, but is particularly marketed towards children. She says the information didn't have to be 'dumbed down', because children are smart.
Joanna says meteorologists have become better over the years at accurately predicting the weather because, even though the same physics laws that have been used for hundreds of years still apply, computer technology has changed.
She also spoke to us about the difference between weather and climate, and gave her thoughts on climate change and those who don't take it seriously: "We don't call it a scientific opinion, it's called scientific fact. These things are not up for debate, they are scientifically observed."
When asked how she deals with those who might blame her or her Met Éireann colleagues for not getting weather predictions absolutely right all the time, she says she thinks most people realise that the work they do is of a high standard.
"We're not a second-rate Met service — we're really excellent."
