Michael D Higgins was re-elected president of Ireland over the weekend, with Peter Casey finishing in second place.
Casey received 23% of the vote, and afterwards he spoke about the possibility of joining Fianna Fáil — but the party didn't seem too keen on the idea.
However, there is one party with an interest in recruiting Casey. John Leahy, leader of Renua, and the party's only elected representative, explained why he will soon be making contact with him.
"I feel a man who garners 23% of the vote in a presidential election is definitely worth talking to."
"I believe his policies are very closely aligned to Renua. He spoke a lot in the campaign about taxpayer first, entrepreneurship and law and order in particular, and I think it resonates a lot with our membership."
