One in five people experience a mental health issue, with anxiety the most common of all.

Stella O'Malley has written a new book, Fragile: Why We Feel More Anxious, Stressed and Overwhelmed Than Ever, And What We Can Do About It.

She joined us on The Last Word to talk about why anxiety is such a growing problem for many of us.

Stella attributes a lot of the anxiety we feel to living in a performance-based culture.

She feels that if this continues, our productivity is going to be reduced.

The first step to tackling anxiety is acknowledging the problem and committing to do something about it. She also says making a conscious decision to switch off from social media can help, rather than leaving ourselves open to constant notifications.

"We need to start building resilience rather than nurturing our fragility."
