The word 'accountancy' is often met with a feeling of meh.
With a load of number crunching, pen pushing, and a ridiculous amount of difficult exams to pass, doesn't really sell the profession - does it?
But thanks to #AskMeAnything, we now see things in a different light.
Speaking on the Today FM's Dermot and Dave, Mike Scanlon, who is the Technical Manager at TaxAssist Accountants, gives us a feel of what life is like behind the calculator.
"A lot of people have a vision of us sitting in a corner polishing our abacuses", Mike laughs.
He tells us how medical expenses often throw a bit of a curveball their way, an gives us a prime example with this story, "I did have to sit across from a lady at one stage and have to explain that breast implants couldn't get tax relief". I guess you'd call that 'chancing your boob'?
Mike then reminds us just how hard those tax exams are, admitting, "I had lost my mind" whilst doing them.
When asked about Revenue, he reckons they're super clued-in to every one of us, "you can't pull the wool over their eyes. They know more about you than you probably know about them", he smirked.
But his greatest gift of the day was explaining what exactly a 'tracker mortgage' is.
