Alcohol Action Ireland has launched an initiative on the impact of parental alcohol misuse on children.

An estimated one in six children in Ireland suffer from alcohol-related harms. Larissa Nolan grew up with an alcoholic father, and she joined us in studio to explain what it's like.

She describes  it as "an abnormal normality that fundamentally changes everything in your childhood."

Larissa says her family life was very chaotic, and that the only time she realised it was different from the norm was when she visited other people's houses.

She also describes the behaviours that many adult children of alcoholics display, such as trust issues, relationship difficulties, judging yourself harshly and having little understanding of what normal drinking is.
