Our parents didn't lie to us when they told us it doesn't grow on trees!!
For most students attending college, money is hard come by. You're relying on a grant, a few quid from your parents and/or a part time job that you have to jump through hoops for in order to hold on to. Then when you finally have some dosh gathered, it vanishes due to the expenditure of education.
One lady who decided to take some action and help out with the ongoing struggle is Principal of the Kerry College of Further Education (KCFE) in Tralee, Mary Lucey.
Mary has introduced the "Take It Or Leave It" initiative, where an area in the entrance of the building is available for attendees to take, or leave, non-perishable food items left by others.
The idea is to help people out when they are having a tough time making ends meet.
On this morning's show, Dermot and Dave gave Mary a call to hear all about the brainwave. The lads discovered how it's about practicality and removing the stigma attached to people asking for help.
You'll be amazed at what the students are NOT opting to take from food bank though...
