Danny Rose "keen to make something happen" on wage cuts

Newcastle defender Danny Rose says he has "no problem" with a contribution of his wages going to frontline health workers battling the coronavirus.

Premier League clubs have proposed a 30% cut in wages to their players which would lead to a £20-million payment to the NHS and over £100m in contributions to clubs in the Football League.

"We're all keen to make something happen," England international Rose said on BBC Radio 5 Live.

"I can only speak for myself but I would have no problems whatsoever contributing some of my wages to people who are fighting this on the front line and to people who have been affected by what's happening at the minute".

Politicians across the UK have been calling on Premier League stars to take a reduction in wages this week ahead of today's meeting of the PFA and Rose insists those comments haven't been the driving force for players.

"Conversations were being had before people outside of football were commenting.

"I've been on the phone to Jordan Henderson and he's working so hard to come up with something.

"It was just not needed for people who are not involved in football to tell footballers what they should do with their money. I found that so bizarre."
