Dublin's search for a new manager has already started following the surprise resignation of Jim Gavin over the weekend.

Gavin stepped down after seven years in charge and the Irish Times is reporting that his replacement could be in place by this weekend.

A county board management meeting is scheduled for Tuesday night and it looks like Pat Gilroy and Dessie Farrell are the leading contenders.

Farrell is the favourite to replace his former team-mate having succeeded Gavin as the Dublin U21 manager, going on to win All Ireland titles in 2014 and 2017.

The 1995 All Ireland winner is currently in charge of his own club Na Fianna, who pushed eventual winners Ballyboden St Enda's in the quarter-final.

Gilroy was at the helm in 2011 when Dublin ended a 16-year wait for Sam Maguire but he walked away the following year after a semi-final defeat to Mayo.

The Vincent's clubman took charge of the Dublin senior hurlers between 2017 and 2018 but he left the role due to work commitments.

Paul Clarke, Jason Sherlock, and Declan Darcy could also be considered, having worked on Gavin's management team.

Dublin's opening Allianz Football League clash is against Kerry at Croke Park in less than 8 weeks.

We are still waiting to hear from Jim Gavin on why he decided to call it a day but he is expected to attend the Philips Manager of the Year Award ceremony in Dublin on Thursday.
