Solskjaer says De Gea 'touch and go', reveals defender contract talks

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says David de Gea is 'touch and go' to face West Ham in the Premier League on Sunday.

The goalkeeper is back in Manchester, having returned home for the birth of his daughter Yanay.

However, De Gea must isolate following his return from Spain.

The 30-year old missed last week's Manchester derby win over City, and was replaced between the posts by Dean Henderson.

"David is back in Manchester. So he is quarantining or self-isolating," Solskjaer said ahead of the visit of David Moyes' side.

"He is touch and go for Sunday I think because I can’t really know when he came back so I am not really sure if it was Monday or Tuesday that he arrived back in Manchester.”

Asked if De Gea was allowed to train and otherwise isolate, the United manager replied, "No, I think he has got to stay at home. I think so, he is not training with us anyway.

"It is different if you travel away and compete so no he has not been training since he came back."

The West Ham test comes just 72-hours after United drew 1-1 with AC Milan in the UEFA Europa League.

That game marked Eric Bailly's 100th in a United jersey. The Ivorian is out of contract at the end of next season, and Solskjaer was asked if there are plans to renew his deal.

"Yes we are talking to Eric and Eric’s representatives," the Norwegian replied, "He is keeping fitter for longer and you can see his performances as well and I have been very happy with him.

"His playing style has sometimes made him lose too many games because 100 games that is not enough for the period he has been here.

"He is getting more and more robust so yes he is one we are talking to.”

West Ham are still battling for European football, and their cause has been helped by the success of Jesse Lingard's loan from United.

He's scored four and assisted two in his six matches for the Hammers.

However, Lingard cannot face his parent club on Sunday because of the loan deal arrangement.

“Yes for Jesse it has really worked out, "Solskjaer said, "For David [Moyes] it has really worked out and for us as a club as well because we know that Jesse’s position is a 10 and we have got Bruno there so for me it was a no-brainer to get Jesse a chance to prove himself and to play some football again and he has been really bright for them and he’s finally back to himself.”
