Last week, an Italian couple made headlines when they named their daughter Azzurra after the Italian soccer team, ‘The Azzuri’.

On The Ian Dempsey Breakfast Show, Ian recalled naming his own son Evan after 'Nesbit Evans', the company that made the beds in the maternity hospital where his son born. Meanwhile, newsreader Kacey O’Riordan shared that she was born in a room which held doctor’s briefcases, hence the name Kacey!

Aisling Bonner took to the streets to ask people the inspiration behind their names:

And as it turned out, listeners of The Ian Dempsey Breakfast Show had some epic naming stories of their own! Here are some of our favourites:

My son was born on our driveway which wasn't long after being tarmacked. Couldn't bring myself to give it as a first name but as his second we decided to call him Adam (tarmacadam) - Joanne.

I was named after Kimberly biscuits. My people like them - Kimberly.

My little girl Cara is named after Liverpool's Jamie Carragher - Marie in Roscommon.

My daughter Erin is called that because the day I first saw her on the scan was the day I became an Irish citizen. We stopped for a quick scan in Mullingar on the way to Dublin - Faye.

Hi Ian, my name is Steven and middle name is Christopher because there was a boxing match between Steve Collins and Chris Eubank the day I was born - Steven.

I was named after the eldest daughter in the Sound of Music... Liesl. Try growing up with that name in Dublin! - Liesel.

We named our youngest son Max. The reason for this... he was born in Holles St and weighed 5 kilos, which was the biggest baby in the hospital that week. He was huge and had tons of hair. Max seemed like the most appropriate name!

My parents thought I was their last child so they decided to put their two names together, Peter and Triona, and came up with Petriona. 5 years later, they had my little accident brother Pierce - Petriona.
