Folk music doesn't get more elegant than this.. introducing Bedouine.
Born in Aleppo, Syria to Armenian parents, Azniv Korkejian aka Bedouine grew up in Saudi Arabia before moving to America with her family through the Green Card lottery. Arriving in Boston they then shifted to Houston, but Bedouine soon broke away for LA.
Finally settling in Echo Park, LA after time on a ranch in Kentucky, a year in Austin and studying for a degree in sound design in Savannah.
She tells of her travelling tales “Moving around so much caused me at some point to feel displaced, to not really belong anywhere.”
And you can hear this deep influence in her music and her moniker Bedouine means the nomad, the wanderer.
She signed with Matthew E White's label Spacebomb Records in Virginia and has just released her debut album.
Have a listen to some of her songs below, she'll definitely be one to watch this year.
If you like what you hear, she plays the Roisin Dubh in Galway on November 3rd, Dolan's Warehouse in Limerick on November 4th, Cyprus Avenue in Cork on November 5th and land in The Grand Social in Dublin on November 8th.
