Families tell of devastation at charities scandals

The Government has been accused of failing children and abdicating its responsibility to charities.

Families have spoken of their devastation and disgust in the wake of the liquidation of Console, saying all charities have been tarnished.

Sinn Fein TD for Cork South Central Donnchadh O'Laoghaire says the Government has abdicated its responsibilities to charities.

It comes as Keith Duffy has told Today FM that he worked tirelessly for Irish Autism Action, when the State should have been helping autistic children.

Juliette Gash reports;

Keith Duffy says he started hyperventilating when he read comments from Irish Autism action suggesting the 8 million euro he raised for the charity cost 7 million to raise.

The singer and actor whose daughter has autism says he worked tirelessly for the organisation and never asked for or got any payment.

Parents who rely on children's charities have spoken of their devastation at continued scandals in the charity sector.
