Teachers say it'Â’s unacceptable that newer qualified members won'Â’t have their pay restored under the Lansdowne Road Agreement.

The ASTI is one of two unions to reject the deal, while the rest of the almost 300 public service unions have accepted it.

The Garda Representative Association is the other group saying No to Lansdowne, and 62% of its members are now facing pay freezes.

The Association of Garda Sergeants and Inspectors is re-balloting its members on the deal - recommending they accept it.

The Government has appealed to unions to back the deal, saying itÂ’'s the only option for pay restoration.

But President Elect of the Association of Secondary Teachers, Ed Byrne says the deal won'Â’t address the gap between newer and older teachers;
