The celebrations out west are going to last well into the week, because for the first time in 29 years, Galway are the All-Ireland senior hurling champions.

Micheal Donoghue's men continued the clean sweep of league, provincial and All-Ireland honours this year, beating Waterford by 26 points to 2-17 in Croke Park yesterday.

Captain David Burke led by example, his 4 points from play saw him named man of the match.

And here's the moment he walked up the Hogan stand steps, to get his hands on the Liam McCarthy Cup.

There were emotional scenes as the Galway players paid the respects to the late great Tony Keady, just over three weeks after his sudden passing.

Keady was one of the stars of their last All-Ireland in 1988, winning the Texaco Hurler of the Year.

Galway forward Joseph Cooney says honouring the great centre back was a driving force.

For Waterford, their wait for a first All-Ireland since 1959 continues. Selector Dan Shanahan says he and Derek McGrath couldn't have asked for any more from their players.

It was a day of double celebration for Galway, their minor hurlers became All-Ireland champions for the 11th time, recovering from a poor start to beat Cork 2-17 to 2-15.

Jack Canning - nephew of senior star Joe - was the hero of the hour, scoring two second half goals.

Both teams are due to arrive back at Pearse Stadium in Salthill for their homecoming celebrations at around seven o'clock this evening.
