A simple act of kindness by a bus driver in Cork has gone viral and this morning Anton tracked him down and spoke to a modern-day gentleman.
William Harris, originally from North side of city – Drives the 205 route in Cork – covers UCC and CIT. He has been a bus driver for 16 years. To him, helping the elderly lady was nothing much, but to a the tens of thousands who have viewed a Facebook post of his kind act, he is a hero.
He told Anton he helped the lady yesterday as she was getting off on college road. Her lace was open but she couldn’t bend down due to her arthritis.
His daughters heard about the Facebook post and phoned him – he thought that they were having a joke – but believed it when he came home to see that over 70,000 (and counting) had viewed it with many sharing it.
He said he likes to help his passengers as much as he can but his new found fame won;t see him making outrageous demands. He isn’t even going to look for a raise from Bus Eireann but he did get a phone call to say congratulations for the good publicity.
