It was a glorious day in the Phoenix Park and just under 2,000 people took part.

We did exactly what we set out to do... run a half marathon and raise half a million.  We are delighted to announce that the event has raised over €600,000 for LauraLynn!

Thank you to everyone who volunteered fundraised and ran/walked the race.  We couldn’t have done it without you.

One man who took part, Peter Carolan, crossed the line in 1 hour 52 minutes.  He then collapsed, having suffered cardiac arrest.  He was resuscitated on site by Pat Trappe, a fireman & paramedic in Rathfarnham Station who crossed the line just after Peter, and by Gerry Hilliard, a retired fireman, before being transported to St James’s hospital.

Thanks also go to St John Ambulance who went above and beyond their call of duty and were instrumental in successfully resuscitating Peter and his transporting him to hospital for a full recovery.

Alice Carolan, Peter’s wife, was on site with her three daughters, Aoibhinn (10), Orla (8), Caoimhe (5), and watched the scene unfold.

This morning, Ray was joined in studio by Alice and by the two men who saved him: Pat and Gerry.

Alice was able to confirm the good news that Peter was discharged from hospital yesterday and is now back at home.

Expressing her gratitude to Pat and Gerry for the part they played in saving Peter’s life, Alice said:

“I don’t have the words to express how grateful myself, the kids and all the family are to you.  We are unbelievably lucky that you were there.  I’ve no doubt, and I’ve been told in the hospital as well, that his recovery is thanks to the immediate and really good, proper CPR that was performed on him, and you just realised it so quickly and went to it.  Words just can’t express my thanks enough”.

Pat and Gerry said “it’s great news, a great outcome and great result”.
