Gavin Glynn from Greystones was diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare cancerous tumour of the pelvic muscles at the age of 1.  Now, following 3 years of treatment in the care of Dublin’s Crumlin Hospital, the tumour continues to spread and Gavin has been given just months to live.

There is one last chance at hope though.

After weeks of research by Gavin's parents Jayne and John Glynn, they've located groundbreaking treatment, called HIPEC, only available in the MD Anderson Hospital, Houston, Texas, USA.

Listen to Gavin and his parents talk to Matt Cooper here.

HIPEC (Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy) is a procedure that involves open surgery to remove any tumours and then inserting chemotherapy, heated to 42 degrees into Gavin’s abdominal region to kill any microscopic cancer cells present.

Despite the hope, this last chance to save Gavin does not come cheap, as Jayne and John need to raise over $450,000 US dollars to cover the cost of the consultation and the two month treatment. Gavin will be the first Irish child to undergo this surgery.
