Join the Wallace Brothers, a host of International Rugby Legends, and of course, some of the wonderful today FM crew, to raise funds for CROSS cancer research.

A Today FM team will cycle a special stage of the course in memory of the late and great, Tony Fenton.

The CROSS Atlantic 1000, the charity cycle led by former Ireland International and Lions player Paul Wallace, accompanied by a host of international rugby legends, will be staged from 5th – 11th September 2015, supported by Lifes2good, to raise funds for CROSS Charity supporting cancer research at Trinity College Dublin.

Now in its 4th year, the event takes a twist in 2015 as the route embraces 1,000kms of beautiful scenery on the Wild Atlantic Way from Skibbereen to Donegal. Over 7 stages, it stops off along the way to visit schools and attend events to raise awareness and funds for cancer research.

Text LEGENDS to 50300 to donate €2 to fund cancer research (a minimum of €1.63 will go to Friends of CROSS)

Joining the 200 strong team of cyclists for the tour this year are former rugby greats such Rob Wainwright, [Scotland and Lions], Zinzan Brooke [All Black], Ieuan Evans [Wales and Lions] and former Irish legends Eric Elwood, David and Richard Wallace, Mick Galwey, Paddy Johns, Niall Woods and Liam Toland to name but a few.

This year, Stage 5, on Wednesday 9th September, is dedicated to the memory of Tony Fenton of Today FM, the broadcasting legend who sadly lost his battle with cancer in March this year.  A team from Today FM will cycle the 155kms from Galway to Castlebar, through Tony’s beloved Connemara as a tribute to the honorary Galway-man, raising funds for CROSS cancer research in the process.

The evening before in Galway, Paul Wallace will host a fundraising dinner, which includes a 2015 Rugby World Cup Preview with the Rugby Legends.  It’s a chance to meet the legends and quiz them on all things RWC, followed by dinner and entertainment.  Tickets available from michael@crossrugbylegends.com

On Sunday 6th of September, for Stage 2, the CROSS Atlantic 1000 tour will merge with the annual Cross Donal’s Mountain cycle which commemorates Donal Walsh’s 2012 achievement when he took part in the Rugby Legends Cycle that year whilst recovering from his second round of cancer. The two sets of cyclists will converge at Waterville and cycle together to Tralee to celebrate Donal’s legacy.

There are some stage places left on Stage 1 (Skibbereen to Bantry), Stage 2 (Bantry to Tralee) and Stage 3 (Tralee to Lahinch), Stage 4 (Lahinch to Galway), Stage 6 (Castlebar to Ballina, and Stage 7 (Ballina to Donegal).  A limited number of places remain on Stage 5 (Galway to Castlebar).  Each stage entry fee is €290, or €1,500 for the full tour, which includes accommodation, meals, return transfers, amazing cycling kit and fantastic fun!

The CROSS Atlantic 1000 has raised €225,000 in the last three years for Trinity College cancer research, in particular helping to find new ways to treat and prevent cancer and awareness of the research work being done at Trinity College Dublin and St. James’s Hospital research programme led by Professor John Reynolds.

The fundraising target for this year’s cycle is €150,000 with all proceeds going towards cancer research at Trinity College Dublin. Anyone wishing to make a donation, or sponsor an individual cyclist, can do so at the Charitable Friends of CROSS / CROSS Atlantic 1000 pages at mycharity.ie or at JustGiving.com, or text LEGENDS to 50300 to donate €2 [VAT may apply.
