While Irish names are among some of the most beautiful in the world, they are also notoriously hard to pronounce.

There's no end to the way people butcher Irish names abroad but it seems we may have found the most bizarre take on an Irish name yet.

Caitlin is a name derived from the name Caitríona, the Irish for Catherine. Different variations in spelling are used around the world, one of which being Kaitlyn.

Well one woman in Australia decided even that spelling wasn't "different" enough.

Jessica Mavis from Queensland found it tough to choose a unique name for her daughter.

She loved the name Kaitlyn but maintained it was too popular. So when her husband suggested they put their own spin on it she jumped at the chance tohave daughter stand out - and she certainly does.

They decided to replace the "ait" in Kaitlyn with the Roman numerals for the number 8 and named their daughter... "KVIIIlyn".

The name was spotted in an Australian magazine and people have had mixed reactions to the unusual spelling.

They get an A for effort anyway.
