While 'Photobomb' has been named as 'Word of the Year' by Collins Dictionary, Tinder, Bake-off and Devo-Max came in as runners up. We're familiar with Tinder and Bake-off but the question was instantly raised; what the *bleep* does devo-max mean?

Initially, the general consensus between the Early Breakfast listeners and ourselves on the Early Breakfast was that it must mean 'extremely devastated or devastated to the maximum' (i.e. very sad) with even our own Ian Dempsey getting in on the discussion suggesting that perhaps 'devo-max' is the opposite to 'amazeballs'. We were sure the word had just escaped us for the past 12 months because perhaps we weren't 'young and cool enough'.

A few of the listeners jumped on board too. Baldy Al said 'Devo-max is how Scousers feel this morning' after Liverpool's defeat to Real Madrid last night. And Andy in Laois said he'd be 'devo-max if he didn't hear some Red hot Chilli Peppers before 6.30'.

It turns out however, devo-max is not a new hip word used by the young and cool kids, but instead it means full fiscal autonomy and fiscal federalism...... OK. The phrase rose to prominence in the UK during the lead up to the Scottish referendum.

We're just totes devo-max we never knew that!!

Let's celebrate photobomb as word of the year though with one of the country's best photobombs here.
