Ed Sheeran is one of the biggest and best out there at the moment and is currently rich enough to buy his manager a present of a Range Rover ('I can buy people nice gifts now') but he admits that it hasn't always been easy for him. He made remarks recently about spending much of 2008, '09 and '10 without a permanent place to stay but he says the claims that he was homeless were taken out of context.

When trying to make it in the music industry, Ed Sheeran moved from Suffolk to London to study music in 2007, but admits he ran out of money and couldn't pay his rent. He says he had to spend some time sleeping on mates' floors, grabbing a spare room after a session and he even admits to sleeping on the London Underground trains for a few nights.

Speaking to Capital in London, he said, “I spent a week catching up on sleep on Circle Line trains. I’d go out and play a gig, wait until 5am when the Underground opened, sleep on the Circle Line until 12, go to a session – and then repeat. It wasn’t that bad. It’s not like I was sleeping rough on the cold streets.”

“I didn’t have anywhere to live for much of 2008 and the whole of 2009 and 2010, but somehow I made it work. I knew where I could get a bed at a certain time of night and I knew who I could call at any time to get a floor to sleep on. Being sociable helped. Drinking helped.”

He says that spending a few nights in the heating duct in an archway outside Buckingham Palace inspired the song Homeless and the line 'It’s not a homeless night for me, I’m just home less than I’d like to be.'

The Daily Mail reports that the singer is now worth almost €10 million.

Fair play Ed!
