They played a key role in Shane MacGowan’s new teeth, they have backed the legendary Pogue on his new album, and they have mixed with the finest, but Mullingar group Cronin are very much their own band. Centred around brothers Johnny and Michael Cronin, the band joined the Anton Savage Show with Neil Delamere for a sublime Christmas session, chatting about this, that and other and playing a wonderful version of Frankie Goes to Hollywood’s Power of Love as well as their own song ‘In Lonliness Lies Love’.

LISTEN HERE:

The band tell Neil all about life on the road. They are always gigging and have shared the stage with Kaiser Chiefs, Niall Horan from 1 Direction, Pete Doherty, Christy Moore, Paul Weller and many more.

Cronin have had a hectic 2015 with gigs as far away as Bratislava to Oslo, Nelson Riddle EP release, 2 storming gigs at this years Electric Picnic to getting name checked by legendary producer Tony Visconti and Libertine Pete Doherty who thanked them at the end of the recent Libertines Dublin gig.

Previously known as mod band The Aftermath, they have new album due in February 2016. Also in the band are Mullingar lads Fiachra Milner and Brian Murphy.

Their cover of the Frankie goes to Hollywood Christmas classic "The Power Of Love" (with a little help from mate Matt McManamon from Dead 60's/ The Specials) is available as a free download fromSoundcloud.

Of course, they are in the news for their work with Shane MacGowan. They have recorded new material with him which is also due to see the light of day early 2016. MacGowan loves the lads Drumlish studios, which has also hosted Kodaline and The Strypes among others.

MacGowan documented his recent oral surgery for a new film which recounted how years of drugs and alcohol left his mouth a shell of what it once was.  The Cronins appeared alongside Johnny Depp and Pete Doherty in the doc, and show real affection for Shane, who trusts them and counts them as one of the reasons he changed his ways. Highlight comes when Michael gives Shane a bottle of Holy Water before the surgery... and he drinks it!
