Today’s Daily Download comes from Gabrielle Aplin and it’s called “Light Up The Dark”. It’s taken from her upcoming album of the same name, which will be released in September. She’s been described as Feist meets Cat Power – not a bad combination to be compared to, it’s one I would be happy with anyway!
She’s had a lot of success so far in her career, she’s had 63.5 million Spotify streams, 80 million YouTube views, 1.5 million sales of singles from her debut album “English Rain”, and she’s already reached number 1 in the UK and Australia. She said her new album was inspired by Joni Mitchell and Feist... And she said “I’ve also become much more comfortable writing songs about other people’s stories as well as my own, much of which is inspired by travelling and everything I’ve seen since my first album.”
We were talking about Jack Garratt yesterday being a DIY artist, and it would appear that Gabrielle trumps him on that score, before she was signed to Parlophone Records, Gabrielle set up her own label to release music when she was only 15. You might remember her version of “The Power of Love” which topped the charts a few years back.
She was over recently, for the Ruby Sessions so hopefully we’ll see her again soon – this is Gabrielle Aplin with “Light Up the Dark” and it’s Friday’s Daily Download.
