St. Vincent, otherwise known as Annie Clark, hails from Texas, and got her stage name from a Nick Cave song called "There She Goes my Beautiful World", which references St. Vincent’s hospital where poet Dylan Thomas died – and it’s also a nod to her grandmother who’s middle name was St. Vincent. She honed her musical skills in good company, performing with the Polyphonic Spree and then with Sufjan Stevens touring band before branching out as a solo artist in 2006. Her eponymous album has been named as NME’s album of the year for 2014 - the album was released in February of this year – and is the fourth album to come from St. Vincent. This is “Birth in Reverse”, by St. Vincent, and it’s Thursday’s Daily Download.
