Kanye West has been confirmed as the second artist due to perform at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards, which take place on August 25th.

New dad West joins the previously announced Lady Gaga on the bill and will be performing his new single BLKKK SKKKN HEAD, taken from his sixth studio album ‘Yeezus’.

West will now tie with Madonna for the most VMA performances ever, with seven appearances apiece.

Kanye West made VMA history in 2009 when he infamously stormed the stage and interrupted Taylor Swift's acceptance speech for Best Female Video to complain that Beyoncé should have won the honour instead. A year later he returned to the VMAs to perform a rendition of "Runaway" from ‘My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy’. In 2011, West and Jay Z teamed up to perform their ‘Watch the Throne’ track "Otis" at the VMAs. West was notably absent from the 2012 awards show.

Some of the biggest names in music are nominated at this year's awards.  Justin Timberlake will be battling it out with Macklemore & Ryan Lewis with the singer and collaborators each earning six nominations.

Other artists who earned top nominations include Bruno Mars, Robin Thicke, Miley Cyrus, Pink, Thirty Seconds To Mars, Taylor Swift, Calvin Harris, Drake and Fun.

The VMA's will be held on August 25th at Brooklyn's Barclays Center.
