Regina Spektor is a big wheel in the East Side New York anti-folk scene and after tours with both The Strokes and The Kings of Leon she exploded into the mainstream with the fantastically left-field, feel good hit "Fidelity" - her exagerrated singing made the song an immediate smash with over 500,000 video views in a week.
If you're a fan of "Orange is The New Black" (Netflix) you'll recognise the dramatic, fast-paced indie loaded single "You've Got Time" as the theme tune - it's the latest release.
...the Cheap Seats
The Spektor sound is a crooked wheel that somehow keeps on rolling - turning an artistic and eccentric eye for oddity into a multi-coloured parade... and, her latest 6th album "What We Saw from the Cheap Seats" is as high on kaleidoscopic musical drama as it is on classic dewey eyed ballads, quirky fun and wistful reminiscence.
It would be lazy to push it all into a box with the unloved toys and indie-girl stereotypes - there are many stellar moments.
