in 2013 a voice scaled the walled city of Derry that caused us all to stop and 'whoah'! At just 16 years of age, Bridie Monds-Watson, aka Soak, showed a remarkable maturity of voice in every sense. Her stripped back style revealed a stripped back and raw presence far beyond her years and has she drip fed tracks with the likes of Sea Creatures and Blud, respect and excitement grew. Her debut album was highly anticipated and thankfully she has only cemented her reputation with a stunning record. It would be a mistake to condescend due to her age because whilst her voice is light and brittle there is much power and maturity here. Tracks like 'Garden' and 'Reckless Behaviour' display a fragile yet compelling songwriting craft and whilst the album may feel a tad stretched at 14 songs, there is absolutely no doubt that Soak is set to become one of the most unique and powerful talents to emerge from this island for some time.
