Beck boasts one of the most interesting, most schizophrenic discographies of any contemporary artist this side of David Bowie. Like Bowie, Beck has built a career on restlessness and reinvention, confounding predictions and expectations.

To mark the arrival of Mr Hansen to these shores and get you in the mood  should you be heading to see himself in The Royal Hospital in Kilmainham here are our fave Beck songs...

“Devil’s Haircut” (from Odelay, 1996)

“Devil’s Haircut” is the best of the three singles from Odelay, the album that propelled Beck from an underground indie-rock wanna-be to bonafide pop megastar.

“Loser” (from Mellow Gold, 1994)

His music scene walk on tune! Sampling Johnny Jenkins’s cover of the Dr. John classic “I Walk On Guilded Splinters” and dialogue from the movie Kill The Moonlight, the song opens with the immortal lyrics “In the time of chimpanzees I was a monkey” and gets even weirder and better from there.

“Lost Cause” (from Sea Change, 2002)

The album Sea Change showed a more thoughtful and mellow side to beck and this track, produced by Nigel Godrich is an absolute heartstopper and amongst his finest moments

"Jackass" (from Odelay, 1996)

Taking a glorious sample from Van Morrison and Them's version of 'It's All Over Now Baby Blue', Jackass is a gorgeous blissed out counterpoint to his finest album's manic eccentricity. Glorious!

"Blue Moon" (from Morning Phase, 2014)

His latest album is  distinct return to the more mellow climes of Sea Change and this standout track is a haunting showcase for Beck's song writing genius.
