Key findings from a new survey by Hotels.com reveal some interesting findings regarding where we’re planning to spend Christmas this year.
Top line results are as follows:
- 42% of us plan to spend Christmas in our own home but 48% of us will celebrate elsewhere
- 29% of us will stay in the country and spend the festive period in the home of family or friends
- 5% plan to spend the festive period in the home of family or friends abroad
- 25% plan to spend this Christmas in a hotel, with 8% staying in their home country and 17% going abroad
- Almost one in 10 (8%) travel at Christmas to avoid all of the festive fuss at home
- 24% say they would miss their family the most if they were away from home at Christmas and almost a fifth said they would miss the usual Christmas food (18%) and local Christmas traditions (18%)
- However, 10% of people said there is nothing they would miss about home if they travelled abroad for Christmas
