Ten children and four adults have been injured following a crash in County Kerry.

All casualties have been removed from the scene of the accident on the main Killarney to Tralee road.

It happened shortly before 6pm two miles outside Farranfore on the Killarney side of the N22.

It involved a mini bus and what is believed to have been a car rented by a British couple who were on holidays with their three children.

Gardai, three units of the fire brigade, ambulances and Kerry County Council staff attended at the scene.

Two people sustained serious but not life-threatening injuries in the crash.

It's understood five of the injured have been taken from Farranfore airport to Cork University Hospital, with the others transferred to Kerry General Hospital in Tralee.

A garda techncial examination has been carried out at the scene and the road has now reopened.
