100,000 attend the Ploughing Championships

100,000 people attended Day 2 of the Ploughing Championships in Co Laois today.

Almost the entire political establish were there too including the Taoiseach, Tanaiste, cabinet ministers and opposition leaders.

The weather largely held out, but Gerald Fleming from Met Eireann says that people will need their wellies for Day 3.At the Championship The Agriculture Minister says that he believes there are a lot more young farmers now who are excited about the future.

Simon Coveney says that he thinks most farmers would say that the agriculture industry is in a better place now than it was four years ago.

The government announced a 30 million euro rural renewal scheme this morning – however Taoiseach Enda Kenny admitted it won’t do much on its own.

Minister Coveney said that it’s part of an push to make farming a more desirable career for young people.
