Organisers of today's protests - against water charges- are predicting over 100,000 people will take part in demonstrations around Ireland today.

The first of more than 90 rallies got underway in Artane and Tallaght in Dublin from 11 o'clock this morning.

Further protests got underway in Dublin, Cork, Kildare, Meath, Waterford and Wicklow from 12 o'clock with, additional rallies kicking off around now in counties Kerry, Galway, Clare and Mayo among others.

The Right 2 Water campaign is the largest public demonstration in the lifetime of this Government.

Just over a hundred people turned out at the Five Lamps anti-water protest in Dublin's North Inner City which was being organised by Sinn Fein.

The group has marched in towards the city centre.

Sinn Fein Deputy Leader Mary-Lou Mc Donald says people across the country are sending Government the strongest message yet.

Meanwhile, demonstrations are taking place in county Clare today.

Seoinaigh Ni Shiomoin is the organiser of the march in Shannon which is just getting underway.

She has been speaking to Clare Fm.
