NASA says the discovery of over 1,200 new planets provides hope that there may be one out there - just like ours.

The Kepler Telescope has located the exoplanets as part of its mission to find bodies capable of supporting life.

Of the newly discovered planets outside of our solar system - nearly 550 could be rocky ones like Earth.

The space agency says the findings are historic.
