Three children are said to be among 16 people injured when a United Airlines plane struck severe turbulence approaching Ireland overnight.

They were all taken to University Hospital Limerick following an emergency landing at Shannon Airport this morning.

The majority have since been discharged from hospital are expected to continue on their journey to the UK later today.
