Drug taking was a factor in a third inquests heard in Cork City last year.

Coroner Philip Comyn says drugs were a major factor in a huge number the 253 inquests heard in 2016.

Mr Comyn made his comments at the inquest into the death of 18 year old Alex Ryan from Millstreet in Co Cork who died days after taking a deadly hallucinogenic drug known as N bomb at a house party last year.

The Court heard in evidence Mr Ryan died from brain damage due to cardiac arrest.

Gardai had called to the house after another man was found naked on the street bleeding from his arms and legs after smashing a mirror and dancing on the broken glass after taking two tabs of N bomb.

A verdict of death by misadventure was returned.
