A 19 year old man has died following a car accident in the early hours of this morning in Longford.

It happened when the car he was driving left the road and struck a barrier at around 2.15 a.m. this morning at Lisbrack, Newtownforbes, Co. Longford.

He was pronounced dead at scene and taken to Mullingar General Hospital.

The road was closed for a forensic collision examination and has now reopened.

Gardai are appealing for witnesses or anyone who may have been on the road between 2a.m. and 2.30a.m. this morning to contact Longford Garda Station on 043 3350570, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.
