A 19-year-old man has been killed in a crash in Co Galway.

The single vehicle collision happened at 2.20am this morning around a kilometre outside Williamstown.

The male driver was pronounced dead at the scene, and his body taken to University Hospital Galway.

The road is closed and diversions are in place.

Gardai are appealing for witnesses - in particular anyone who was on the Williamstown to Castlerea Road (R360) between 1.45am and 2.10am - to contact Tuam Garda Station on 093-708-40, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800-666-111 or any Garda station.
