Gardai have questioned two women in connection with a fatal assault in Dublin last Thursday.

29-year-old man Gareth O'Connor from Clondalkin in Dublin died following the incident in Cow's Lane in Temple Bar.

The women - who are in their twenties - were detained at Pearse Street Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

One of the women has been released from Garda custody without charge and a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The second woman remains in custody.
