The government claims it's taken over 1300 people out of homelessness so far this year - and will double that figure by the end of the year.

But the minister for housing admits the government is "running to stand still" because of the numbers in need of emergency accommodation.

Ministers are updating this lunchtime on the progress of a major plan against homelessness launched two months ago.

One leading campaigner against homelessness, however, says he 'will reserve applause' over the plan until the number of homeless people actually begins to fall.
